Increasing inclusion and adoption in the transition to electric transportation for a rural US area

Row of mailboxes in rural America as a representation of the hardship many will face in the energy transition.
To support economic growth and speed the transition to zero-carbon energy, in collaboration with the local utility and other major stakeholders, MDE helped develop a regional energy plan for an impoverished rural district. It included: - A strategy for vehicle-to-home and vehicle-to-grid, - A design of time-of-use rates, and - An electric vehicle public charging infrastructure plan. Special emphasis was put on how to increase the availability of home charging in low- and moderate-income neighborhoods.

Support El Paso's Energy Transition and Equity Plan

Sky View of El Paso, TX.
MDE supported El Paso in developing its electrification, decarbonization, and equity and inclusion strategy and integrating it with the city's strategic plan. El Paso intends to become a leader in the energy transition and in equity and inclusion. El Paso's goals are: - To accelerate economic growth, - To speed its transition to renewables with the appropriate generation stack, - To support electric transportation, - To develop an EV charging infrastructure that serves everyone, - To develop electric rate structure that draws industry and creates jobs, - To enhance inclusion and equity. Working with multiple internal and external stakeholders including the Chamber of Commerce, the City, El Paso Electric, UT El Paso; MDE developed an integrated set of recommendations. Among others, these included the development of an EV public charging infrastructure focused on low- and moderate-income neighborhoods, and a micro-grid integrated with bi-directional electric vehicles. Many are currently being implemented.

MDE was extremely valuable in helping furthering El Paso’s goals. Rob actively engaged and listened to all our major stakeholders to develop an integrated set of creative ideas, which are now being implemented.
